The Durutti Column: Bruce Mitchell (drums); Poppy Morgan, Keir Stewart, Vini Reilly.
Personnel: Helen Farley Jones (vocals); Tim Thomas (trumpet, percussion).
The Durutti Column's umpteenth album opens with one of Vini Reilly's most heartfelt songs, a tribute to his late Factory Records boss Tony Wilson called "In Memory Of Anthony." (As the biopic 24 HOUR PARTY PEOPLE showed, Wilson was the Durutti Column's biggest--seemingly at times only--fan.) LOVE IN THE TIME OF RECESSION continues in a similarly accessible vein, mixing a handful of vocal tracks with several of Reilly's trademark crystalline, near-new age instrumentals, like "Wild Beast Tamed" and "More Rainbows."

Record Collector (magazine) (p.82) - 4 stars out of 5 -- "[T]he singing is gloriously fragile, making some lyrics beautifully elusive..."
