Synopsis

Theres something in the air. It might be love - but it isnt. From the lauded director Baz Luhrmann, comes this wonderfully kitsch and amusing tale of repression and dreams, all set in the super-tanned and garish world of Australian ballroom dancing. Scott Hastings (Paul Mercurio) is a talented ballroom dancing champion who longs to dance his own steps. This results in being dumped by his partner and chastened by all those around him, except two people. One is Fran, the ugly duckling of the school who persuades him to let her dance with him, and eventually steals his heart. The other is his father, a quiet man dominated by his bejewelled wife. Scott knows in his heart he must follow his dreams, but some are determined to see him fail. The film climaxes at the Australian Championship in a superbly choreographed and heart-warming finale.

This is a Region 4 disc. A multi-region player may be required in order to play this disc in this part of the world.

this movie is incredible. its definitely motivating to get out there and get involved in dance, and it was also interesting for me to see paul mecurio (dancing with the stars nz judge series 1 & 2) in action, and witness his amazing dancing technique, and realise that he really knows what hes talking about when hes judging the tv show

This semi autobiography of Baz Lurhmann is great!-(his parents are ballroom dance instructors, and he had to learn) So funny, some brilliant lines, made funnier by the ozzie accent. Great hair, dancing, breaking of the rules and ugly duckling all triumph in this extravaganza of film!

Scott Hastings is a champion caliber ballroom dancer, but much to the chagrin of the Australian ballroom dance community, Scott believes in dancing "his own steps". Fran is a beginning dancer and a bit of an ugly duckly who has the audacity to ask to be Scott's partner after his unorthodox style causes his regular partner to dance out of his life. Together, these two misfits try to win the Australian Pan Pacific Championships and show the Ballroom Confederation that they are wrong when they say, "there are no new steps!"
