Bollywood meets social satire in this family drama about a suburban middle-class Punjabi family presided over by a matriarchal - and staunchly traditional - 'Badi-Mum' (grandmother). Badi-Mum believes that women should be subservient to their husbands, and spends all her time and energy trying to marry off members of her family to suitable spouses. But her daughter Uma (Rajeshwari Sachdev) and grand-daughter Jaya (Neha Dubey) are causing her headaches: Uma has come to terms with the idea that she will never marry because her terrible asthma puts off potential suitors; while modern girl Jaya is holding out for a man who will be her equal.
