The aristocratic DI Thomas Lynley and his acerbic sidekick, DI Barbara Havers, return to face an onslaught of complex cases and challenging personal trials in this compelling murder-mystery series based on Elizabeth George's best-selling books.
It is testing times for Havers and Lynley following the traumas they endured in Series Three. Although physically recovered from her dramatic shooting. Havers' mental fortitude is under question. IN DIVINE PROPORTION: Its Havers' first day back at work and she's assigned to the case of a young woman who has been killed in rural Suffolk. In a final confrontation, Havers is held hostage at gunpoint and has to face her fears of being back in the line of fire.
IN THE GUISE OF DEATH: Havers is spending her compensation money learning Akido at a retreat in Cornwall and Lynley is visiting his mother nearby when a local horse trainer is found hanged in his stable. The killer may be closer to home than they imagined.
THE SEED OF CUNNING: Back in London, Lynley and Havers investigate the murder of a doorkeeper at the House of Lords. It looks as if the murder may be connected to his gambling debts, but when a Clerk at the House is also murdered, events seem to point to a wider conspiracy.
THE WORD OF GOD: A body is found frozen on a meat truck in Smithfields market. The victim, an illegal immigrant, is carrying what turns out to be part of a valuable ancient golden Koran - more than enough motive for murder. Did he fall foul of his traffickers?
