Charlie Goodson (Charlie Sheen) is a non-traditional therapist specialising in anger management. He has a successful private practice, holding sessions with his group of primary patient regulars each week, as well as performing pro bono counselling for an inmate group at a state prison.
Charlie thrives on the chaos in his life while still battling his own anger issues. When Dr Kate Wales moves to India, Charlie's life doesn't get any easier with the arrival of his new psychologist and business partner Dr Jordan Denby (Laura Bell Bundy), nemesis Sean (Brian Austin Green) and of course, his interfering and meddlesome father, Martin (Martin Sheen).
