This English translation of the winner of the Welsh Tir na n-Og
prize for 2000 enables the rich culture of these Celtic legends to
be appreciated by a wider audience.
The uniqueness of the ancient oral tradition is highlighted in the
choice of tales and in the dramatic style of writing. Each Celtic
land has two carefully chosen stories in this collection,
reflecting the diverse natures of each nation, as well as innate
similarities.
Vividly drawn characters thrive against harsh rural landscapes and
unforgiving seascapes. Giants, fairies, ghosts, witches, mermaids,
princes, wolves abound, as in all good tales of enchantment, and
the reader/listener is kept spell-bound to the end.
The wonderful telling of the tales is enhanced by vibrant
illustrations, complementing the beauty, romance and, sometimes,
humour of the various images.
