Reviews

"Factually accurate, yes-but also a witty pictorial reincarnation of Bleriot's first experience of an airship . . . There's dash, style, and economy here in both text and pictures."--Kirkus Reviews

"Fact is turned into magic."--The New York Times Book Review

"This book...recounts the persistence of a Frenchman, Louis Bleriot, to build a flying machine to cross the English Channel.... The text is succinct, caption-like in its directness and brevity . . . The paintings...add the necessary texture and tone to this marriage. This is vintage Provensen"--School Library Journal

One day while Louis Bleriot is driving through the city of Cambrai, France, he sees a wonderful airship overhead. The year is 1901, and the airship is an amazing sight. Inspired by the airship, Bleriot decides to build a flying machine of his own. He tries many different designs and finally builds an airplane that can really fly. Then Bleriot learns that a prize has been offered to the first person who can fly across the English Cannel. To prove how good his airplane is, Bleriot decides to take the challenge. On July 25, 1909, Bleriot clims into the cockpit of Bleriot XI. He makes the historic flight across the channel from France to Dover, england, in thirty-seven minutes. Very exciting and inspiring!!

The Glorious Flight tells the story of Frenchman, Monsieur Louis Bleriot who was the first man to fly across the English Channel. We get to meet Monsieur Bleriot at home with his family and we witness his experiments, failures and finally, his success. What a triumph! The pictures are just delightful, as is Monsieur Bleriot himself.
