Simon's mother doesn't want him to go to school. After his father died in battle, Simon is all she has. But Simon is excited about the opportunity to prove his worth. He meets other young cells, including the energetic Jeff Heart, the uptight Lizy Thyroid, the knowledgeable Jon Appendix, and the carefree Ryan Lung. The friends get to know each other and begin studying the different systems in the body.
The school year is going great until the evil Meningitis attacks! This horrible disease wants to invade Gerald's entire body, and the immune system is becoming overwhelmed. Nonimmune cells like Simon, his friends, and his other classmates will have to help defeat Meningitis once and for all!

Zieno graduated from the Kansas City University of Medicine and Biosciences with a doctorate in osteopathic medicine. He practices medicine in Nebraska, where he lives with his wife, Kim, and three daughters. His eldest daughter, age six, helped him create the perfect images for his work.
